Day 93 - Bricks day 4

The brickies were back today!

Not as much progress as I thought they would do, but I guess they had to cart quite a few bricks around this morning.

Front of the house- they have done to the top of the windows

I spoke with the SS this afternoon and he said that the bricklayers should be finished next Thursday and then the following day fascia and gutter and then the roof.

Keep your fingers crossed the weather holds out.

Day 92 - Scaffolding. Check!

I did my usual drive by past the block this morning on my way to work. The weather has been pretty atrocious the last couple of days, so I wasn't sure if they would be putting up the scaffolding today. Thankfully they were there and starting to erect it.

This afternoon, not only was the scaffolding complete we had had a delivery of bricks and another delivery of sand

Hopefully when I drive past tomorrow we will have bricklayers.

Day 86 - Bricks Day 3

I drove past the block this morning and there were seven bricklayers on site. They are certainly making up for the delay.

The side of the house that was started yesterday was finished this morning and they also finished off the front of the house including the rest of the garage.

I spoke with our SS today and he said that the scaffolding should be erected Tuesday or Wednesday. Another delivery of bricks on Wednesday and the bricklayers will be back on Thursday to finish off the house. Our SS thinks that it will take just under a week to finish off the rest of the house and then we will move onto the roof.

Day 85 - Bricks Day 2

Fantastic progress today!! These brick layers are quick! Half of the original bricks that were delivered have now been used, which means that about 4,000 bricks have been laid in two days. That is pretty good going.

They have finished the side of the house they started yesterday

They have bricked the back of the house, not that there is too much to brick there as it has two three metre stacker doors.

The other side of the house is nearly complete as well.

My kitchen splashback window.

They have bricked up to the 5th bedroom ensuite, just the home theatre to be completed and then they will start on the front of the house. I am hoping the front of the house will be bricked tomorrow.

One of the things that I have noticed, apart from the bricklayers being fast, they are NEAT.  I cannot fault their brickwork at all.  My SS assured me that they were very good and they were the team that completed the show homes at Waterford County - I can see why he sings their praises.

Thank you Rawson, I know I whinge when the site is vacant, but I can't fault the tradies that you hire. So far everyone that has been on our site has been fantastic!!!

Day 84 - Bricks Day 1

Today I drove past the block on the way to work and I was pleasantly surprised to see the bricklayers already there and there was four of them.

One of the good things about being at work all day you get to see the whole days progress when you get home.

I think that the progress was pretty good today.

Day 83 - Brick Progress - Not Quite

Today I was so excited when I saw the bricklayers finally at the block.

I was so tempted to do a drive by early this afternoon to check the progress, but I was good and thought I would wait until Mat got home from work.

As soon as he got home, we loaded the kids in the car and off to the block we went. We were trying to work out how many bricks they would have laid today seeing there was 4 of them. One thousand, two thousand.

Guess how many bricks they laid - NONE. Not one single brick!

The only thing we can see that has been done, there are a couple of piles of bricks that have been made and the cement mixer has been dropped off.

Maybe we might get a brick laid tomorrow.

Day 83 - Bricklayers at Last

I drove past the block earlier, I couldn't help myself. I don't think I have ever been as nervous driving down my own street.

Thankfully, we have bricklayers on site. They looked like they had only just arrived, so I didn't stop and get a photo.

Maybe they read my blog post and came to my rescue.

Day 80 - Wanted Bricklayers

As I expected the bricklayers didn't show up today. So much for a start on Thursday at the latest. It is very hot today, but when I drive and see bricklayers working on the house across the road from my old house it infuriates me.

I work for a builder and I am tempted to start ringing around the brickies that we use and see if one of them can do me a favour and brick my house.

Day 80. Trades on site 15 days. Vacant days 65.

Day 79 - Broken Promises

On Tuesday I was promised that we would have bricklayers on site, Wednesday or Thursday at the very latest.

Yesterday I went past the block and nothing.

Today, being Thursday was the day that they were going to be there without fail. I drove past on my way to work. No one was there

Mat went past when he woke up - still no one.  I rung the SS to be told that they had broken down, but they were coming, they would be there I promise.

I think my text to the SS this afternoon sums it up "bricklayers didn't show today"

Another broken promise. Excuses are starting to get old.  I want to be Rawson's biggest fan, I want to shout their praises, but at the moment I am annoyed and disappointed.

My list of promises

1. You will have a frame and slab by the end of November - didn't happen -  slab only
2. You will be bricked and roof started by Christmas - didnt happen - frames only
3. You will have ground floor bricks completed before Christmas - didn't happen - see above.
4. You will have bricklayers before Christmas - didnt happen - see above
5. You will have bricklayers start first thing on 7th - didn't happen, it is now 17th and still waiting
6. Bricklayers will start Wednesday, but definitely Thursday at the latest - DIDN'T HAPPEN!

Tomorrow is supposed to be 40 degrees, I doubt we will have bricklayers tomorrow either. I am at the point where I can't be bothered to ring and check.

I keep trying to look at the bigger picture, but when your neighbours stop you and ask if everything is OK as your site has been vacant for so long it is hard.

Day 76 - Water

The water was finally connected on the block today. Thank goodness for that!

We also received a delivery of sand today, so that might mean that there will be bricklayers in the near future

Day 70 - Brick Delivery

Nearly a month late our bricks finally arrived today.

The neighbour stopped us on the weekend to ask if there was anything wrong as they hadn't seen anyone there for so long. We knew things were slow, but didn't think that others would notice it as well.

I drove past the block this morning and was cross to see it empty again. On my way to pick up the kids this afternoon i drove past again not expecting to see anything. Thankfully, surprisingly, the bricks had been delivered - 20 pallets of them.

There is still no water, so I don't think the bricklayers will be coming anytime soon. Still trying to be patient

Day 68 - Unexpected Progress

Today we did our usual twice-daily drive past the block. It has been sitting idle since 13th December, so it basically feels like punishment to see no progress. Today we got a little shock. Mat thought he saw a water meter. We turned around and sure enough someone has been there to install the meter. There is still no water, but a meter is a another step.

Rawson returns from Christmas break tomorrow. I am hoping that we have bricklayers as promised this week
